Susan Grant, private client solicitor, has retired after helping her clients for over 40 years

Susan Grant specialist private client solicitor has retired

Our fantastic head of private client Susan Grant has retired after 7 years at Julie West Solicitors

Susan studied Geography at University College London before completing a law conversion and qualifying as a solicitor in May 1980. Since then she has lived in Surrey and worked as a solicitor for more than forty years.

After working with Julie West in Leatherhead in the early 1990s, Susan kept in touch and joined Julie West Solicitors in 2015. She was keen to join a local firm where she could work independently and pass on her experience.

Susan has extensive experience working with wills, trusts, lasting powers of attorney, probate and estate administration. She particularly enjoyed working with elderly and vulnerable clients, going above and beyond to ensure that they are at ease, informed and given clear choices.

During her time at the firm, Susan oversaw the qualification of three solicitors, two of which remained with Susan in the private client department. Susan has spent 7 years building our private client department, supporting her colleagues and helping students and graduates towards their first steps into the law all while delivering quality service and building lasting connections with her clients. Susan has had an immeasurable impact on our firm.

Sue Grant is the best teacher I have ever had. She taught me everything I know about being a private client solicitor, but more than that she showed me the difference in quality of work and life that comes from being a truly supportive colleague always there to lend an ear or a hand, no matter what. Thank you Sue for giving me the gift of a specialism that I love so much.
— Emma Westmith, solicitor and director of Julie West Solicitors

Outside of her work, Susan is a trustee of the Mary Frances Trust, a charity based in Leatherhead supporting individuals experiencing any kind of emotional or mental health issues, inspiring them to develop skills and raising awareness of the importance of looking after mental wellbeing. The Trust aims to develop and deliver first class, voluntary mental health services throughout Surrey.

Susan is also a member of Ashtead Choral Society who perform regularly in Ashtead, Leatherhead, Dorking and the surrounding area as well as special tours abroad. Susan also enjoys all kinds of theatre from the RSC to the Edinburgh Fringe.

Susan looks forward to being able to devote more time to the Mary Frances Trust, Ashtead Choral Society and travelling. Although we will certainly miss her, we are grateful for all that she has done for the firm and will continue to follow her example of doing things properly, with humour and care.

Thank you Susan!

Susan Grant herself was an excellent and efficient solicitor and she did a great job for us at a very reasonable price. Given that Susan was dealing with matters relating to my late mother’s estate, I found her to be very approachable and sensitive to our needs in every respect. The family would certainly use her services again should the need arise.
— Philip, West Sussex
Susan Grant was superb. She was really great to deal with and provided very appropriate and helpful advice on tricky issues… Susan Grant was just the best solicitor and so pleasant to deal with that she made the whole process really positive. Susan was very thoughtful in the advice she gave, and we felt very reassured that she was achieving the best outcome for us all.
— Jill, Walton on Thames
Susan was extremely responsive to questions and our concerns about meeting tax deadlines. She was also very helpful in advising on tax issues. The costs were clear and very fair.
— Kathy, Hersham
